Base Camp Duffel

From the Antarctic to the Himalaya, the Base Camp Duffel has been everywhere you want to go

As Big as You Need it to Be

It’s been thrown down the Lhotse face, dragged across continents and hauled up Pakistani peaks.

Born in 1986. Exploring ever since.

Originally designed in 1978 as hardwearing soft luggage crafted from laminated vinyl, it was beefed up – and given its existing name – in ’86 with hyper-durable ballistic nylon to withstand the rigours of expeditions.

It’s seen hundreds of athlete expeditions. Millions of air miles. There’s no other exploration companion that’s done more.

“The Base Camp Duffel is the go-to bag for every The North Face athlete. It’s simple. It’s indestructible. And it’s built for serious abuse.”

Jimmy Chin

The North Face Mountaineering athlete and photographer

Same. Same. But Different. This is the evolution.

Over the years we’ve added more handles (in 1989) and a D-door full-zip top opening (in 1996), and now it comes in sizes extra small to double-extra-large.

  • Made from super-durable, water-resistant ballistic nylon
  • Two padded side handles let you grab and go
  • Switch to shoulder straps when on the move
  • Get at your stuff quickly, with the D-door opening

Ready to be roughed around

Whether on camels or yaks, flat-bed pick-ups or travellers’ backs you can sling it, throw it, haul it, sit on it – the Base Camp Duffel can’t be beaten.

If there could be just one bag to symbolise epic adventures, it’d be this.

From beaches to base camps

It’s journeyed from expedition base camps to urban metropolises and you’re just as likely to find it filled with rope, harness and mountaineering boots as you are bikinis, boardshorts and flipflops.

Icons are born not made

Born to serve the needs of expeditions in the harshest regions of the world, these products have now taken on lives of their own. Harnessing cutting-edge technology, innovative design and athlete insights they were revolutionary. Today, they are iconic, worn and used everywhere from city streets to mountain tops.
